Otto graduated from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam with a degree in political science and history. After a brief career in consumer research at Research International he started as a planner at JWT Amsterdam in 1987.
In 1992 he became a member of the management team and was responsible for planning for clients such as Unilever, Kellogg’s, Heineken, BMW and Postbank. He followed marketing and management courses at INSEAD and was co-initiator of Thompson Total Branding, JWT’s international planning tool. His key role in winning both the Randstad and the Dutch Railways accounts was what made him decide to switch to client services director in 1996.
Otto became managing director of the PPGH/JWT group of companies from 1998 until 2004. National and international clients such as ABN AMRO, Vodafone, Shell and Essent.
